Smoke from wild fires may be reducing local air quality. Locations: Bonavista Peninsula. Short range wind forecast: Light and variable winds this evening are expected to becoming southwesterly 15 km/h tonight and increase to southwest 20 to 30 km/h with higher gusts on Thursday. Remarks: Smoke from a wildfire near Chance Harbour on the Bonavista Peninsula may cause reduced air quality near and downwind of these fires. Smoke conditions may vary locally as wind and fire behaviour changes. However, southwesterly winds expected to develop tonight and continue on Thursday should improve air quality conditions tomorrow for most areas. People more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should avoid strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms. ### When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events. You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.
