Brief Description Gale Warning
Detailed Description Northwest Gales Wednesday and Thursday. .Low pressure system remains on track to travel east from Wisconsin into northern lower Michigan Wednesday morning which in turn will drag a cold front across the Great Lakes overnight. Pre-frontal southeasterly flow will persist ahead of the cold front with wind gusts ramping up to around 20-25 knots over Lake Huron. A lull in wind speeds and gusts are expected during the mid to late morning hours as the low pressure system centers over Lake Huron, however, return flow from the departing low pressure will increase cold air advection over the relatively warm lakes, increasing instability and bringing strong wind gusts over the open waters. Likely northwest gusts ranging between 30-40 knots, sustained 25-30 knots, will persist over the Saginaw Bay and over all of Lake Huron through the bulk of the day on Wednesday and into Thursday morning. This has resulted in the issuance of a Gale Warning, which will be in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. A ridge of high pressure is then forecasted to build in over the Great Lakes late Thursday into Friday morning which will relax the pressure gradient and resulting wind speeds. . GALE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM TO 10 PM EDT WEDNESDAY. * WIND AND WAVES: During the Gale Warning, expect sustained winds up to 28 knots from the north with gusts up to 35 knots. The largest expected significant waves will be 8 feet with a potential maximum wave height of 11 feet. * TIMING: The maximum winds are expected around 5 PM EDT Wednesday with the largest waves expected around 8 PM EDT Wednesday. Refer to the latest marine forecasts for greater detail.
