| Detailed Description | 6:43 PM EDT Monday 20 May 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: City of Toronto At 6:42 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and pea to dime size hail. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Locally heavy rain is also possible. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 6:41 PM EDT Monday 20 May 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: City of Toronto Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail. Hazards: Wind gusts near 90 km/h. Nickel size hail. Timing: Ending late this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms over southern Ontario are expected to continue this evening. Some of these thunderstorms may reach severe limits. Thunderstorms are expected to weaken later this evening. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Locally heavy rain is also possible. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
