| Detailed Description | * WHAT. Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible due to thunderstorms. Flash flooding is also possible over burn scar areas including the Davis, Conner, Bear, Mill, Inn and Tamarack burn scars. * WHERE. Portions of California, including the following areas, Greater Lake Tahoe Area, Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern Sierra Counties and Mono County and western Nevada, including the following areas, Greater Lake Tahoe Area, Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area and Mineral and Southern Lyon Counties. * WHEN. From noon PDT today through 9 PM PDT this evening. * IMPACTS. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks, streams, low-lying and flood-prone locations including burn scars, and areas near steep terrain. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas too. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - Heavy rain over the last several days have saturated the ground in many mountainous locations, mainly in the Sierra, with rain amounts of 1 to 3 inches, and isolated locations up to 5 inches. Furthermore, slow storm motions over urban areas may lead to ponding of water and quick runoff. Areas near steep terrain can also have quick runoff that could lead to mudslides into nearby roads. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood |
