| Detailed Description |
5:21 AM PST Monday 4 December 2023 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Highway 3 - Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass Rain, at times heavy, is expected. Location: Elk Valley near Fernie, Highway 3 - Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass. When: Tonight through Thursday morning. Total rainfall: 75 to 100 mm. Remarks: An atmospheric river setting up over the B.C. South Coast today will bring heavy rain over parts of Kootenay District. Heavy rain over highway 3 - Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass and Elk Valley near Fernie will begin early this evening. Rain will continue through Thursday morning as a frontal system stalls over the region. Total rainfall amounts of 75 to 100 mm is expected for the region before the rain tapers off late Thursday. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Road conditions are available at drivebc.ca .
