5:37 PM PST Saturday 2 December 2023 Special Weather Statement in effect for: Metro Vancouver First special weather statement: Heavy rain for the South Coast. Locations: Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Howe Sound, Whistler, Sea to Sky Highway, West Vancouver Island, Inland Vancouver Island, and the Sunshine Coast. When: Monday to Tuesday. Remarks: A potent and impactful storm (an atmospheric river) will make landfall on Monday bringing areas of heavy rain as it moves across southern B.C. Very heavy rainfall and rain on snow at higher elevations will increase the risk of flooding and landslides. This event is forecast to be much weaker in comparison to the event of November 2021 but please continue to monitor forecasts for the latest information. Second special weather statement: Elevated ocean water levels are also expected, exceeding high astronomical tide. Locations: Areas of Metro Vancouver near the water, the southern Gulf Islands, and the Saanich Peninsula. When: Around high tide on Sunday. Remarks: Low barometric pressure will combine with a period of high astronomical tide to produce elevated water levels on Sunday. Minor coastal flooding is possible along exposed shorelines. The threat from wind and waves accompanying high water levels will be the greatest on Sunday. Elevated water levels at high tide are likely to persist on Monday and Tuesday.
